WORD STRESS　is GOLDEN KEY UNMBER ONE for speaking and understanding English. WORD STRESS is VERY IMPORTANT.

You can try to learn about WORD STRESS. This is one of the BEST ways for you to understand spoken English-especially to Speak English fast.

What is WORD STRESS?

什么是单词的重读音?

Take 3 words： photograph， photographer， and photographic， for example. Do they sound the same? No! They sound different， because one

syllable in each word is STRESSED (stronger than the others).

以三个单词为例子：photograph， photographer，和photographic。它们说的时候听起来一样吗?不!它们发音不一样，因为每一个单词里只有一个音节是重读的(比其他的音节重音)。

This happens in ALL words with 2 or more syllable： Teacher， Japan， China， above， conversation， Interesting， important， demand， etcetera.

所有有两个或两个以上音节的单词都一样：如上

The syllables that are not stressed are weak or small or quiet. Native speakers of English listen for the STRESSED syllables， not the weak syllables. If you use WORD STRESS in your speech， you will instantly and automatically improve your pronunciation and you comprehension.

不重读的音节发音的时候比较弱或小声或静。母语为英语的人听重读的音节，而不是弱的音节。如果你在说话的时候注意用重读音节，你的发音和理解力会立即和自动提高。

If you have an English teacher， ask her to help you understand WORD STRESS. Or try to hear the stress in individual words each time you listen to English-on the radio or in films for example. Your first step is to HEAR and recognize it. After that， you can USE it!

SENTENCE STRESS is GOLDEN KEY NUMBER TWO for speaking and understanding English. With SENTENCE STRESS， some WORDS in a sentence are STRESSED(loud) and other words are weak(quiet). Look at the following sentence：

句子中的重读是学会说和听英语的第二把金钥匙。在句子重读中，句子里有些单词是重读(大声)有些单词是轻读。看下面的句子：

We want to go.

Do we say every word with the same force? No! We make the important words BIG and the unimportant words small. What are the important words in this sentence? Yes， you’re right： WANT and GO.

是不是每个单词都重读或强发音吗?不!我们把重要的单词写得大一些，把不重要的单词写得小一些。在这个句子里哪些单词是重要的呢?WANT 和 GO。

We WANT to GO.

We WANT to GO to WORK.

We DON’T WANT to GO to WORK.

We DON’T WANT to GO to WORK at NIGHT.
